The web site now has full detail of the GTR, whch is to run on 7 September 2019 - this is a change from the original date of 8 September. We have swapped dates with the Tyne Single Scullers Head, which is now on the 8th.
Brave single sculler Will Hamlyn from Gateshead CRC was number 1 in the start order and set off at 1.00pm, if not a few minutes earlier, from Newburn. In front of him was 25km of hopefully calm water all the way to Tynemouth. Behind him, at least for a few brief moments, were the other 33 participants, each trying to beat the all-time record of just under 1 hr 40 min (or at least their own personal demons).

We have 34 entries in our event for 2017. Fixed seat boats include Whitby Gigs (shown in pic from 2015), Celtic Longboats, St Ayles Skiffs. In sliding seat entries we have a single, a double and the usual larger numbers of quads and fours. All are coxed (a condition of entry).

We have great pleasure in announcing that entries are open for the 2017 event on Saturday 2 September. We have a new online entry system, which will make the task much easier - just go to the Entries page to start. The website has been refreshed and is up to date, apart from navigation and safety documents, which are under review (but they won't be too far from the 2016 versions, which are still available). With our next planning meeting tomorrow night (10 May 2017) we will be firming up and then sending out details of the 2017 event (on 2 September) to everybody very soon. The web site has had a revamp and much info (though provisional until after our meeting) is already there, notably the timings (e.g. the start will be 13:30 onwards).
Following a preliminary draw issued last week, the final draw is now out. We are somewhat down on numbers from 2015, with 26 in the end. But we have a good spread of categories and look forward to a good day on the river. The forecast as of now (lunchtime on 23 August) is reasonable. The draw and other documents for crews can be found on our documents page. Look out for timings here tomorrow, so you can plan your spectating (if not rowing).

Early-bird entries for the Great Tyne Row have been extended until the 18th of July. We thought it was a bit hectic around the time the entries closed so we've extended the closing deadline to allow more time for some clubs to get prepared for the early bird entry closing.
