Accommodation

We are able to offer accommodation on a first come, first served basis, initially for skiff and other fixed seat crews only.  Otherwise if you are having trouble indentifying where best to stay overnight, we can probably advise - email the event director as above.

Accommodation at Derwenthaugh Sea Cadets Station

For 2017 we can offer sleeping accommodation at the Derwenthaugh Sea Cadets Boat Station. This is on the south side of the river Tyne opposite Scotswood and close to the A1 - see their web site here for a map. Also very close to the Metro Centre, if you fancy a bit of shopping or entertainment.

 

This is a new training centre which has 5 hostel type rooms, each of which can house a mixed crew of 5 - there are 2 double bunk beds and room for an extra person sleeping on the floor on a single travel mattress or mat (to be brought with crew). 

 

Sleeping bags and towels are needed. Cost of £20 per person per night (payable on arrival) and includes a full breakfast with cereals tea, coffee, etc. Accommodation is available on Friday and Saturday nights. First priority up to the close of entries is for fixed seat crews.

There is secure parking on-site for cars, trailers and skiffs and

mooring on a floating pontoon. There is slipway access for outings other than for the Great Tyne Row. This is situated 5km downstream of the Great Tyne Row start point and 5km upstream of the famous Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside and bridges

The Metro Centre Holiday Inn Express and Travelodge hotels are 100 metres from the Boat Station.

Gateshead CRC can offer free overnight parking for skiffs and trailers in its compound (adjacent to the Boat Station) for people staying at the hotels.
