A fun row taking you along 25km of the historic River Tyne!
The Great Tyne Row is a 25km event with a difference, We believe rowing is fun and we want you to enjoy the River Tyne with us. We start at Newburn to the west of Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead and row down the historic river through the central quayside to the sea at Tynemouth! This is a unique opportunity to row down parts of the Tyne not normally accessible.
We hope you will join in with us. If not rowing, do come and see us passing at Newcastle / Gateshead Quayside from about 1.45 pm for an hour or so or on the beach at Tynemouth Haven from about 3.00pm. Crews and boats will be in fancy dress on a Puffing Billy theme, prompted by the towns along the Tyne from Wylam to the coast having been a hotbed of steam railway innovation from the early 1800s onwards,.
The rowing will start at Newburn shortly after noon on Sunday 23 August 2026.
