The organising committee is glad to announce that the event will run on Saturday 27 August in 2016. Apologies for the delay in announcing this, but there have been complications with other events competing for a date at that time of year. Start and finish will be as in 2015, Newburn to Tynemouth. The start time will be 12.30pm approx. More details soon. Entries will open in April 2016.

The 5th Great Tyne Row kicked off in glorious sunshine at Newburn home of Tyne Amateur and Tyne United Rowing Clubs. The event had a record entry of 40 boats of which all took part and safely completed the course.

The colourful 25km row which starts at Newburn to the east of Newcastle/Gateshead and finishes at Tynemouth Rowing Club enjoyed one of the best day's racing so far. The event welcomed for the first time new boat types including Whitby Coastal 4’s from Scarborough ARC, a double fixed seat s...

In the build-up to the event the organisers have placed on the web site at!documents/c1okk  the documents crews need to complete the course safely. They include the latest Draw with start order (final version next Sunday), the Navigation Guide and Information for Crews plus other background documents. Read, digest and be prepared to answer questions on them at the safety briefings! Comments and questions on them welcome to the email at the top of the page.

We are pleased to announce that barring technical problems we will be tracking our entries and safety vessels using GPS courtesy of DurtyTracking in the Scottish Borders. The full list of boats is yet to be added, but the public screen is at The trackers won't be switched on until just before the event, so don't worry if there is not much to see until the day. As back-up we will also have more shore manual timing points, so we can cope better with a hold...

More information very shortly, but entries closed last Friday with 41 crews lined up (metaphorically so far) for the event on 6 September 2015.

Go to Event Details/Documents/Provisional Draw for a pdf of the provisional start order. This may change and indeed if you spot any errors or have any amendments let me know at

All race documents will be loaded on this site no later than two weeks before the event.. Here is the text of an email sent to crew captains on 18 A...

5th Great Tyne Row entries open!

On 6th September, the Great Tyne Row will again see a mini armada of rowing boats heading down the Tyne from Newburn, west of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne to Tynemouth on the east coast. The organisers are hoping to break last year's record 34 crews this time around and competitors can send in their applications to join the fun from 2nd April...
